Hello All, I received this pocket watch from my Mom. She said it belonged to her Godfather who was a train conductor in the 1920-30's, he supposedly used this watch everyday while conducting. My Mom is in her eighties now and doesn't have anymore memory about the watch. The watch measures just under 1-5/8" wide. Would like to hear more. Thanks! 8655175 as its serial number places it in 1898. The size is around 12 (movement diam. of 1.566 in.) Most "railroad watches" are size 16 - quite a bit larger.

The size does not make it a "ladies watch" however.

As for material - the rear case should show such markings - the hunter case only appears to show the serial number. https://mb.nawcc.org/threads/my-first-size-14-pocket-watch-waltham-royal.153254/ states that the "ladies size" was 10 (quite a bit smaller), and the 12 and 14 were marketed as "boy's watches."

The engraving on the rear side shows a cabin and a larger house with windows. The pic I posted really doesn't pick up that detail well.
