    Hello all!

I recently inherited these birds from my grandfather and was wondering if you could come up with any information on them?

They came with a note that says they could be from la coustille along with some confusion as to whether the mark is crossed arrows or torches!

Apologies, I have no antique experience but would love to know more about them and try to work out their connection to my grandfather

    Hey Mr. SamWise Gamgee:

Beautiful birds, but what makes you give them such an exact date?

Thanks Ghopper, I think it's that date onwards for the factory my grandfather must have thought they were from - I've found this:

    I think it's a Bourdois & Bloch Paris mark.

    Thanks guys,

Bordouis and bloch is a real curveball, I hadn't come up with, the mark does look similar!

I have seen reference to rue Rue de la Fontaine au Roi as being the same as La Courtille or Locre in the 18th century?

    The marks look very similar!

Hi and WELCOME to ANTIQUERS, SamWise!! Your birds really seem to stand out as quite striking.....looking at the various images and the 'torches' mark, they do look to be as described by your grandfather!!! Lovely!!!!!:happy::happy:

Thanks very much! Unfortunately a complete noob so not sure how much help I'll be around here

Yes I thought they were striking also, the quality seems different to other similar photos I've seen. No further idea other than his scribbled note of La courtille 1773. Don't know if he knew that or if that's what he deduced!

Could you show the bottoms? I'm no expert on French porcelain figures (assuming French) but the bottoms are often important for ceramic identification.

Sure, unfortunately there isn't much on the bottom so had assumed it wasn't of interest.

Actually, it does look like there is writing there that I've outlined in red, but unfortunately, nothing that I can decipher........2 areas........

Were these ever marked that way? I really don't know.

But, I think grand-père notes say it all...

The mark on your bird has 4 lines on the arrow. The mark for La Courtille shows 3.
I'd research further what Book suggested, Bourdois & Bloch Paris mark

    Unfortunately
Unfortunately it just looks like dirt in real life, or if it was a mark then it's so worn as to be unrecognisable
