I was hoping someone can help me out. I got this piece a few weeks ago & have not been able to find any information about it on-line. I have seen a couple listed, but the listings offered no real ID help. It is 7 1/2" top to bottom.

So, old vs. new? What do the marks mean? Satsuma?

Thanks for any & all advice or opinions!!!

    Hi Komokwa,
Those marks are stilt marks from the firing. I have several with just blue dragons on them. They were part of a carpet bowls. They are 4" in diameter.

Hi, this is not Satsuma, it is Chinese. The writing is not a mark, but some kind of poem related to the scene, I think, and certainly the ball was made not too long ago, after 1950 for sure...

This one is 22 1/2" around the center.

Well that explains why nothing was found using porcelain Japanese ball in my search.

I'll look around & see what I can find.

    Thanks everyone!!
