This feels like a really stupid question, but I seriously can't figure out where this was made ... which is severely impeding my research on this piece.

    -5½" tall
-No impressed or stamped marks on base
-appears to be (grainy) porcelain from looking at where one of the leaves are broken
-blue looks to be underglaze, while the green, pink, and rust are (enamel?) over the glaze
-gold accents ... sparkly under magnification, but not what I would call "shiny"
    -seems heavy for its size

Looking for suggestions on how to find any info. about where or when it was made ... my Google-foo must be broken because I have found nothing similar searching with various combinations of porcelain, blue, gilt, applied leaves, lotus, antique ...

there is green cloth glued on the foot ring - is it necessary to see what is beneath it?

Not this time. At least I don't think so. But I've been known to be wrong too.

I would say Japanese, pre WWII.
    Just my guess on time

    Thank you.
Sometimes I feel the same way ... and then, every once in a while, I pass by it and think - "whoa, there's a whole lot going on here" ... but I get over it and go back to loving it again. :)

I don't pretend to know but it looks Japanese to me too. Maybe look at Hirado porcelain.

Well, I know what you mean but . . . if you are going to sell it perhaps you could use in your description a phrase such as "decorated with abandon." ;)

But, and it's a big "but" . . . that may limit your selling to (older?) people who are familiar with that particular meaning of the term "with abandon."

It means/connotes so much more than on-line dictionaries would lead one to believe. :(

I think I'll hold onto it for a while yet ... I'm going to see how it looks with my small bit of flow blue.

Sounds intriguing ... please, do tell ...

That definitely will not do well with flow blue pieces.

My recommendation is to offer for sale to anyone on this site who can prove to be over the age of 80.

A reasonable price including shipping will be best.

Keep me up to date, please.

    TIA
