Possible Counterfeit Bone China?

    Hello and I apologize in advance if this is not allowed as I am a new member here. I was looking into buying a collection of this Oxford Bone China Bennington pattern and the porcelain marks just don't look right to me when compared to other examples but I surely am no expert and dont know if the marks changed over the years. Are there any online resources out there to help me look into this further or do any of you have thoughts on whether this is legitimate or not? Thanks. -K

    Welcome to the forum @Ken K!!! :happy::happy:

    Oxford China was made by a division of Lenox.

    https://www.replacements.com/china-oxford-div-of-lenox-bennington/c/72169

    Don't pay much attention to the prices listed by Replacements. You can usually find pieces online at 1/2 to 1/3 of their prices.

    The pattern looks good & there would be no reason to reproduce or counterfeit this china as it was a lower price point line. Companies often changed their marks over the years & as this pattern was produced from 1963 to 1984 this may have been an earlier or later mark.

    If you do decide to purchase it a couple of things to pay attention to are the condition of the gold trim & also you should be aware that this china will have to be hand-washed. If you put it into a dishwasher you will almost certainly damage the gold trim.

    These are the two marks show in Lehner's book of marks.

    From information on Lenox:
    #13 they filed in 1962
    #27 from a group of "miscellaneous mark from dishes and directories"[IMG] upload_2023-1-3_20-1-50.png

    Saw it at a local online estate auction... current bid is pretty low at $10 and the lot ends today... local pick up only ... we will see how the bidding goes and need to set my maximum but wanted to ask the group about the marks... the crown looks 'closed' off compared to other marks which made me Leery.

    Thank you for your reply. I was concerned about how the crowns looks 'closed off' at the top as if the crown flares are touching and hadnt seen that in any other example I could find online ... looks very similar but a little off which made me suspicious. Thank you for finding those images for me.

    $10 for the whole set? I knew that china dinner set prices were in the dumpster, but wowser! These white with gold rim sets were more popular a little while ago as sone people liked them for Christmas dinner/holiday settings.

    The auction which ends tonight is at $19 for the set so I will bid on them to try and get them but dont know how much higher it will end up... trying to figure out how much I should go as my maximum..

    Geez, even $50 is a steal IMHO! Not so long ago, it would've been a couple of hundred or more.

    I wish I was more educated on glass, porcelain, and pottery items. I see a lot of those types of beautiful items at local auctions. I hope to learn a lot while I am here in this group. I picked the china up today and it is immaculate, very happy.
