This bowl is about 8 inches across...the hallmark on bottom was very small and difficult to photograph. I realize a similar post was recently put up for a Chinese piece of jewelry...but this mark seems different. The repousee and chasing work is very appealing to me.

It reads "维生". I don't know the meaning of it over here.

This is the brand of this silver bowl. The second word reads "记" the meaning of brand. The first word is not clear, please take another photo of it.

Finally, the bowl is made for domestic use, it is NOT a chinese export silver.

Thank you for the information. I do not own the bowl so I do not have access for another photo. The fact that it is not export silver, does that make it more desirable? any idea of age?

wéi sheng "维生".....according to translations is a shorten version of vitamin which seems out of context for this bowl

In this case I can't see there being much difference in value one way or the other. There are collectors for both, and this is an attractive subject and beautifully made. It will help if the maker is well-known, just like with anything else.

A well-known vitamin brand will also help, if it is rare and they have a good reputation.:playful:

Whether it is desirable or not depends on the quality of this item, who made it, who used it, etc. The most important, how many people like it :D
