    Hello all

I am hoping that I could get some help in identifying a table that I have. It was described as a Victorian Eastlake marble top table it measures 32L x 22”W X 31H.

There used to be a label on the base, but it looks to be gone for some time.

I would like to know age, what type of wood, it’s value and also if the marble could be original?

    Thank you for your help

Walnut, Eastlake and probably original marble but it is hard to tell if the marble is a perfect fit with all the photobucket crap covering the details.

Walnut ca. 1880-1890, marble looks original. Nice size, value depends on where you are. In the U.S. midwest maybe $300-$400, again depending on where you are. Could be a little more in a major city.

    Nice.

My brother has one very similar to this one, passed down through the family, except it was cut down to coffee table height a very long time ago.

Though also Midwest, we routinely sell similar tables under $200.00. Markets can vary pretty drastically from place to place.

I thought I needed to use something like photobucket, but I figured it out. No more photobucket for me.

Nice table! There appears to be applied burl veneer sections around the skirt. All these type tables I have seen do not have the marble attached, so it's difficult to say if it is original or not. You might glean some info from the old Sears Roebuck furniture catalogs. I can't get to mine right now, the bookcases are buried behind Christmas boxes!

    Thanks,

Yes, I have seen a few different tables for sale as coffee tables.

Saw an Eastlake Style Marble Top Table yesterday at an estate auction. It was a bit shorter than yours and wasn't quite as nice. Only sold for $45. Was thinking of bidding on it but I don't have the space for more furniture.

I will look into that. Is there access to those catalogs online?
There are sections on the lower legs too that might also be applied burl veneer, as you said.

Does anyone have any idea what those carvings in the center of the base are supposed to be? I read that olive branches were common, could they be olives?
The kinda look like flaming hearts to me.

Glad you figured out how to dump photobucket!

    Beautiful table bwt.

IMHO you got a steal of a deal $40!!! I LOVE antique walnut/marble tables.

I would say the marble is original. It is perfectly proportioned to the shape of the table and has beveled edges. A lot of replacement marble top would just be a flat slab.

    Thanks!

When we went to pick the table up at the location, I kept hearing that lady from the commercial "start the car! start the car!"

The marble is original. It looks to be Tennessee brown, as it's sometimes known, and has the standard overhang. The leaves look like stylized acanthus leaves, pretty typical decorative fare. On further reflection I'd say it's a mix of Renaissance Revival and Eastlake. Still 1880s.

$40 is amazing. Great for you, but it tells me that brown furniture is still in the dumper, market-wise. Maybe it will recover by the time I leave this Vale of Tears....:)
