It looks like some German ones I've seen. I'm guessing that hole on top is from the pewter lid fixture.

It is a tankard from Cologne, Germany. There is an image of the Three Wise Men or Three Kings, and the cathedral which houses the relics of the Three Kings.
The woman carrying the cathedral could be saint Ursula, patron saint of Cologne.
The brewer is probably drinking 'Kölsch', the Cologne beer.

Kölsch beer, this is the light one, especially nice in summer with a slice of lemon ;) :

    Hi AJ,
I have a short tale to tell of Cologne Cathedral, my first train trip to Cologne. It was early morning and I was climbing down from the upper berth on the train. I sleep au natural and when the train pulled into the station, the doors flew open. To the group of citizens waiting to board the train what do they see but a naked butt staring them in the face. I had forgotten to close the window curtains on my compartment. When i turned around all I could see was the cathedral and 20 German faces.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

The subject matter is Cologne, but the maker is still a mystery.

seems to be a bit more complicated with Mettlach/VB or not.
the designer Ludwig Foltz seems to have taken the Regensburger Dom as model when he sketched it; he lived there during that time and the arrangement of windows of the towers seem to confirm it.
this item here could be a cheap reproduction made certainly not by VB - such examples went directly to the dump in Mettlach. obviously the disk turned too fast, the clay was too wet and the whole thingy started to collapse.
the cutting signs of the steel wire at the bottom were absolutely normal for mass-produced stuff well into the start of the 20th century and are no sign to determine age.
