I'm not seeing enough depth to the first few for them to be sake cups. They look almost flat but not quite. Maybe for dipping sauce? The last one does look like a cup. How deep?

Sake cups are not really what we call cups - they are more like little dishes. (These are sake cups BTW)

Definitely military though and could be WW11 - not sure - all the ones I have are pre-WW1 and made from lacquered wood. I even have a really really old one, cracked, cost me a dollar many years ago but still my favourite.

There are sake cups that are almost flat, but I don't know if that's what these are. Google sakazuki. It seems they are mostly ceremonial. I think sauce dishes are smaller.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I see that @ludovic volunteered to help with Japanese translation... has not logged in for a few months, though. Still, thought I'd tag this one. I believe that's the only Japanese volunteer we've had. (EDIT: I should have written "the only volunteer for Japanese that we've had." Ludovic mentioned being French but now living in Japan.)

I like them, too -- for me it's just that they are out of the ordinary compared to things I usually see here in Iowa. :)
