    Hello,

I would like some information about the history, production and value of these attractive items I have as I have not been able to find specific information about them. I believe they were made in China before 1940. However, I do not know by whom nor their estimated value. If anyone has any interesting information I would really appreciate it. Thanks. 39065512_1769963293072229_2327927907143385088_n.jpg 39080087_1769963359738889_7866550455973707776_n.jpg

    Welcome to the forum, Mehmet.

It seems kyra has it covered.:)
Just some extra info, they are ca 1920s Chinese soapstone immortals or folk deities.
I don't recognize the first one, but the second one with the flower basket is probably Lan Caihe, a Taoist immortal.
Lan Caihe is either a woman or a hermaphrodite, depending on the story. She is often depicted with a flower basket or a fruit basket and is also called the flower or peony deity.

These statues were (and are) often carved in workshops and are rarely signed, so it is almost impossible to find a maker.
They are beautifully carved, but that beauty and craftmanship is usually not reflected in the price. A lovely lady with flowers fetches higher prices than an elderly gentleman holding fish.;) On the upside, the fish are carp, associated with riches.

Thank you for the replies. I found some similar information but I'm looking for more specific details. I wasn't aware that the bases were also made of soapstone, so that's an interesting bonus. I know they are not increadibly valuable but their value seems to vary and one or two places sell them for way above thier expected value.

It also depends in which country and venue you sell. This is an international forum and it is amazing to see how some items fetch high prices in some countries, when you can't even give them away in others.

    Welcome Mehmet!
Those are very nice. Be careful , soapstone carvings can be addictive. They tend to multiply. There are a lot of friendly and very knowledgeable folks here that will do their best to help out with any questions you have. And we are all picture junkies , so great job with your first post!!
    Kevin.
