'Prehistoric' pottery

    Pre-Columbian pottery can be really hard to ID, but I'll ask anyway.

    This measures 4"x7" (10x18cm) and what piqued my interest was the old-looking script on the bottom. Maybe the script comes from before there were widespread copies out there?

    Some fine flakes of mica in the clay.

    Found at a Portland, Oregon US estate sale.

    Anyway, thanks for looking.

    An interesting juxtaposition, that word an' price description on a historically dubious artifact...in ink, in the hand of the seller. Mighty insensitive, at a dead minimum...imho.

    You're right. I think even the term prehistoric is culturally suspect--- maybe pre-your history, but not necessarily from the p.o.v. of the culture that produced it.
