Prices for Gingerbread Clocks?

    I'm a new member.

When I was a kid, I used to spend a lot of time in my grandfather's house. My grandmother had a couple of clocks I liked. I have learned that one of the clocks was a "gingerbread" clock. It had a little pendulum and a gong.

My relatives looted everything, so I got no clock. What's a reasonable price to pay for a gingerbread clock in good unrestored condition these days?

Huge range of prices (as per usual), but I'd bet you can get a very nice one for a couple hundred dollars.

    Look up mantle clocks.

It sounds like I'm not looking at a big expenditure. Thanks.

I have noticed that really expensive grandfather clocks have no resale value. People are giving them away to anyone who will haul them, in spite of the 5-figure prices new ones command.

Have you looked through what's available on ebay etc?

Like many things, they range from dime a dozen common to finely made. Clocks were produced by the millions in the 1860-1910 period. A German made larger parlor version in walnut can bring pretty good money . . . a mass produced one with a press incised oak case from any of the dozens of U.S. clock companies tend to only bring $50-150. There are plenty of examples of domestic makers producing high quality premium versions. Viewing the marketplace is a good way to see what values are - lots out there at any given time.
