    Image.jpeg Image 3.jpg Image 4.jpg Image 3.jpg Hello,

Purchased this from ebay without really knowing much about it.

All I know from the seller is that it was her grandmothers.

No markings etc on it but wondered is there was any way of telling where this may have been made and roughly how old it may be?

This is a copy of a famous oil dish, or "sedre ni waiwai". from Fiji.

They were originally used to hold oil that the priest used to rub on his body before performing ritual ceremonies, and come in different forms, but today are sold as tourist items.

Originals can be found in museum collections, and this could be older, but it was most likely made for the tourist trade. It is such an iconic image of Fiji, that it was even pictured on their postage stamps. Here's an example currently on ebay: # 313238337501

I think it is super fun and would use it as a centerpiece on the dining or breakfast table!
