    Early delftware was made in Delft/Netherlands and then over the water in Britain also very early. Usually referred to as delftware with a small d when British. Bowls with sayings are often quite desirable so that may be the where the price comes in. I have an assortment of 18th C delftware punch bowls myself, love them:).

    Hello Sayit: the one above went $1750 or 337% over the max. that seems puzzling.

    there's a number of reproductions on worthpt made by Colonial WIlliamsburg society that sold at 160, 180 and 295. Here's one that purports to be 18th cent. and sold for $75 on worth pt.;

    That bowl looks old to me from that photo.

    Some of the Williamsburg Delft reproductions are made by OUD (Delft) for gift shops etc. Some of the Williamsburg reproductions are made by Michelle Erickson and are pretty nice.

    I am really bad with photoshop,here is a close up of the underside of the first bowl with a handwritten note that says; "9.17.85. Liverpool Delft. $850. Purch. [unintellgible]" so maybe?? 1.jpg

    While I was responding to the last bowl you posted, they both look old to me.

    Oh ok. THe auction bowl appears to be thinner, the colored bowl seems quite thick.

    It is Liverpool delftware, pretty rare. And it is really beautiful.

    And of course "Ain't got it gotta have it" can strike for just about anything. This bowl does look to be old and for old delftware it's in almost perfect shape. Even modern soft ceramics chip like crazy.

    Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

    Here's that note a little larger, which I think may refer more to the sale thereof? I also think the last line 'might' say 'Punch bowl'????
