I'm in search of information about a potter - Margaret Lucas. She was in the Lansing, Mi area from the 40's through 1990. She was of Austrian decent. I don't know how she signed her pottery; it could be any combination of her name. Her Austrian name was Margaretha Weiss Lukacs - Married Margaret Anna Lucas.

I don't know much more about her than that. I'd love a couple photos of her work and how she signed her name. Long shot - I'd be interested in knowing where there might be some of her pieces for sale.

Hoping to hear someone knows "something"! :)
    Thanks, Cheerio,
    Leslie

Tracking down one of her relatives could be a solution.
All her children have died according to the info, that is/was managed by her grandson Bruce Vernon Lucas. The only other grandson that's mentioned (digging deeper on that page), is Bruce's half-brother Paul Andre Lucas. There's no info on where they live, and google didn't help finding them (yet ... , as they will probably be tracked down by @Debora :D)

Give us some background, would you? Where did you learn about her? What is your interest in her? You might reach out to one of the local Lansing art organizations such as this one to see if they have more information:

Thanks Debora! I'll do that. I am doing some research on a Cooperative Farm that was in lower Michigan in the 1930-50's. I have a transcript that a former member had taped back in 1979. She mentioned this harrowing escape from the Nazi's of a man, Hans Lucas, from Austria...who came through the farm briefly in 1938?. She said it took him a couple years to get his wife and kids out. Soon after he arrived at the farm, she said that her husband, himself a MSU grad, took this man, "Hans" to MSU and they hired him on the spot. I was able to find out quite a lot about him. Cancer researcher...etc. BUT, his wife, was a "potter" and I'd just be so interested in seeing what her pottery looked like. She said that the wife, Margaret; didn't really adapt well to the US. Retaining her German and peasant way of dress. I like your idea to contact the local Lansing group... Great idea! Cheerio, Leslie
