This is one of my favorite pieces from the lot and a bit of a question mark. I'm thinking 1930's maybe? The material is intriguing. Some kind of plastic --pretty sure not bakelite. Chain is quite long (very out of focus on this one pic of length--tried to get a photo while holding it away from me -didn't work well.) I think maybe the chain part is intended to be doubled. As far as the material, that little red line of imperfection on the top green heart is visible on both sides of the piece so something embedded in the material. Maybe a clue of what kind of material this is.

Has anyone seen a similar? Also remind me of the name of this kind of chain.

It is nice Lucille, very quirky. I seem to remember those snake chains came in ca 1950, but one of the fashion joolies will know.

I’ve always thought those chains more modern than 1930s. Have you done the Bakelite test with Simichrome? It looks like someone may have worn this for luck when playing cards. Strange that the heart is green, I would have made the heart and diamond red and the club and spade black.

Have not done the test yet, just thinking it didn't present like bakelite, but might try rubbing it to see if I that smell.

Maybe is a lucky charm for playing cards. I'll have to try that.

For some reason it reminds me of German jewelry the way the pieces decorated and set with that metal band.

    Thanks for taking a look!

Snake chain, and I agree it's later. Looks 1950s to me. I'd test for Bakelite.

    I was thinking more 1960s.
Wish I'd gone to that sale.
    That's another cool piece.

    It's Bakelite! Simichrome positive.

Maybe 50's/60s but something still feels a bit older but maybe doesn't matter as Bakelite will be the main selling feature.

I'm so glad I grabbed this. It was an absolute feeding frenzy at the sale and at first glance I didn't even know what exactly it was but just put it in the bag thinking it was newer at first. Once home, was thrilled to see it was an extremely cool older piece.

Cluttered it was an estate sale for the history books. And hardly anyone was there (compared to most sales) and the place was packed with the most interesting stuff ever, beautifully displayed at reasonable prices.
