It's just crazy curiosity But how in the heck do they do this an get it to stay there. I just can't see it there are no nails. Those thin pieces of wood bent over the molding?

Here is bad photo of the whole thing still in process of fixing The wood on the top left was loose so gluing that back so I can put the top back on. But it is old and I just don't get it. And it even came with the key which is pretty much unheard of with old closets.

I think those straps are part of the molding, all one piece.

Don't think they actually go over the molding. They are separate pieces and the molding butts up against them. Could just be glued on and pressure applied until dry before finishing.

Maybe nails are under the 4 bowed pieces, and they are hiding the 4 nails for stability then glued.

Never thought about it being one piece now that makes more sense

I'm thinking the 4 bowed pieces are not wood but metal, and have small prongs which have been driven into the wood.
I'd think the oval piece might well be metal also.
