    004.JPG 005.JPG Hi,
Does anyone know about this pottery piece? I have been using it as a pencil holder for years now. It is 4½" by 3" wide. Every time I tried to look it up nothing came up since I thought it was Covancroft Pottery.:eek:

    "Govancroft Pottery 1911-1976
Across London Road, at the corner of Potter Street, was the substantial Govancroft Pottery. At one point this had (according to the Pottery Society), "a monopoly of (ceramic) jam jars" which it exported throughout the world. Latterly, it produced distinctive thistle shaped ware. A quick search on the website indicates that there is still a substantial trade among collectors for them. The pottery was closed in 1976. A pleasant set of modern houses has taken their place, called "The Potteries". There is a Govancroft museum in Edinburgh which you can view by appointment if you call beforehand 07908843755 the museum has many rare and wonderful wares."

It's a Scottish pottery. Try Govancroft Stoneware and you'll find lots of it. They made utilitarian pieces, like preserve pots and mustards, that sort of thing, which food was sold in. This might be fish paste or relish. They also made spongeware. I own a few bits.

Looks like everyone was posting at the same time. Yes, there is plenty of info out there. Maybe you made a typo, or tried to put it in Glasscow....

    Hi,
Thanks for replies. With this allergy I probably did put Glasscow instead of Glasgow.:oops::oops:

    I have a beautiful Govancroft bowl, 8 3/4" across, 4" high.

So far, I've listed it 11 times with no takers. Mine has a stamped mark dated 1913-49. Still no takers. Listed cheap too. On a BIN. But this is one I won't toss.
