Featured Question about MOP choker. Chips? Veneer on plastic?

    This choker looks like it is made very well but I don't know much about mother of pearl. Some spots on the little discs seem to not have that mop look. Looks flat like plastic? Could it be a veneer or do some mop look like this? Mother of pearl.jpg

    The irregularities actually make it look more like natural shell than it would if artificial. MOP is not such an expensive material that you wouldn't find it in a necklace like this. See no reason to think it is not real.

    I believe they are called Capiz Seashells.

    They look a bit thick to be capiz shell, but hard to tell. Could be any number of mollusks.

    I've a few of these, 1960s and 70s I believe. Thin MOP discs they are indeed, on woven backs. Nice to wear, too. Filippino I think.

    I have been trying to find something like it and cant on ebay or etsy. I have seen this before but I don't know where. Can you share a pic of yours?
