Not too sure about the mark on these figurines. I thought it might be an old royal crown derby marks but now I'm not so sure. It doesn't look like other RCD pieces online. The seem to always have a more finished look with figurines on a pedestal. Any guesses on age? I have some different porcelain pieces around. I would call these the roughest looking. Kind of a non refined look. Any thoughts?

They're pretty recent Asian copies, I'm afraid.

That's what I'm here to do. Find out information (good or bad) about the pieces I can't identify. My grandmother collected a lot of things in her days, most of which I have or will have on day. Not all of it (obviously) was quality. Thank you Obb for the hard truth

Oh I don't believe me, but now I know these two are neither. I have to limit what I have to at least "somewhat valuable" or better, antique or not. Or just pieces I just really like. It makes it easier to part with things if they don't fall into one of those categories.

Why not? They don't need a reason to dance on the table, celebrate life!:joyful:

I think they're very charming, and would love to see their faces.

Can you provide photos of the maker's mark on each piece? The one you have is a little fuzzy.

It looks like the Royal Crown Derby Osmaston Road mark used from 1877-1890. Date cyphers started in 1880 so that would indicate your mark is from 1877-1879.

Here's a mark from 1878 on a Royal Crown Derby item of mine:

I agree they're nicely done, but I also think this is a wannabee Derby mark, not the real thing. The mark is very much like copies I've seen here: too machine made looking. The base isn't right either, Derby would never have let a piece out with that sloppy painting. The arms are chunky, the blue one's face has that Asian look and the features are not fine enough. Painting is also not delicate enough.

    These have me puzzled.

If these are recent fakes, why are there not more for sale.

If these are genuine RCD, why are there not prior records.

Style looks wrong, but mark looks ok ish

I'm inclined to side with Bear on this but not totally sure.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I'm no expert on this, but when first looking at these I thought the painting didn't look right. The colors are too flat, with not enough gradations, or something.

Yup. The glaze is sort of sticky, too, not that lovely fine sheen.

Here are some better shots of the marks. (There is nothing else) One of them is blurry from the factory. How recent are they? They have to be at least fifty to sixty years if not older. That I know of).
Included a shot under the dress of one of the figures, where you can see spots where they missed painting. Not sure what that means.
