Away for a few days break and of course found an antiques shop. I picked up this silverplate jug as I liked it. It’s marked Joseph Westby & Co Ltd and an S. I’ve found that he was only in business it seems 1894-1896 and possibly using the name for a short time after. Googling it leads me to dining silver from Pullman Car Company, (UK 1874 to the 60s. (Science museum sadly doesn’t have photos of its archive of Joseph Westby railway dining silver) The thing I’m not sure about is the letters on this are PCL and isn’t the Pullman logo I can find on anything else. Just wondered if any railway enthusiasts know the logo or if it is maybe an early Pullman logo?. The shop had a huge amount of railway memorabilia which apparently all came from one house clearance which makes me fairly convinced it is railway related. Long shot but any ideas? Thankyou
Westby may have been active longer than that. You may have found his father's info. See the info here. http://www.silvercollection.it/electroplatesilverWZ.html
It’s all a big woolly as a website says insolvent in 1896 but carried on trading. I’ll carry on digging.
