I have rectangular silver toned tie tac or lapel pin? The rectangular silver toned is currently existing as a tie tac. However, the lapel pin is so little that it slips right off the back of the tie tac. It is 2" long. The rectangular silver toned object with unknown design is about 1/4" x3/8". I would like to find out if this is a lapel pin or tie tac, the design figure, the decade it is from and the material. Thank for your assistance in this request. Rob

As the others, I'd think... Vintage 1960s-ish tie tack. The backing could be a marriage which would explain why it doesn't fit snuggly. Not precious metal unless marked as such. Looks like an abstract floral design but impossible to say definitely without knowing the designer's intention.
