Hi again. I got this painting this weekend. It looked 1930s / 40s and a little WPA to me. New Mexico? Arizona? Sunday painter?

I thought the composition was nice and also the signs of age. Some repairs as you can see.

I can't find 'G. Williams.' Any help or otherwise comments are appreciated as always.

    Thank you!

    Thanks @Roaring20s.

I always appreciate (and envy!) your desert perspective from up here in my rainy locale.

a strong amateur painting .... though it bothers me that the tree isn't casting any shade on the road............

still, as nice composition , & complimentary frame ...

Attractive and inviting painting, and the frame adds to the SW atmosphere.
I would be tempted to paint it on.:shame:

I think it IS there...just not onto the road. I think the perspective puts that shadow onto the grass, just at or beyond the 'horizon' that separates the earth from the building.
I've no artistic skills to support such an assessment, though...I could be wrong.

There is, or used to be, a Mexican hiway (road, then) between Mexicali an' Tijuana, Baja California del Norte. It was winding, lane an' a half, desolate drive...through country very similar to the Red Rock area depicted in this painting. The stones were, along most of the way, stark an' barren, on both sides...but not, as I recall, quite as red as those...more yellow, but otherwise as dramatic an' imposing. I only drove there once, east to west...about 1957, iirc.
