This is a piece I passed up for $5. It has four fractures to the handle which have been glued and it has a near dime size loss to the glaze. I've sent a email to Crocker Farm to get an opinion. I'm thinking it might be an earlier piece of American redware. I'm hoping the trees are common to the Virginia (Solomon Bell) or Pennsylvanian (John Bell) area. Any thought are appreciated.

And specifically, the male fern or wood fern, dryopteris filix-mas. I can bore for Britain about fern life cycles! Looks like another species under the handle, though.

Unless my monitor is really off, this isn't redware it's yellowware with a Rockingham glaze.

Could be American as lots of this type was made in the second half of the 19th C and into the 20th lots of places. I'm not aware of any being made in VA.

I'm no expert in Bell (only have a piece of stoneware) but I don't think they made this type of pot.
