We knew my FIL had this sign and he wanted us to have it but after his passing we couldn't find it, while cleaning behind a deep freeze yesterday we found it LOL.

Not quite an antique but since Rickenbacker was only in business from 1922 to 1927 this sign is pretty darn close. Porcelain and double sided. I know nothing about sign collecting, but know condition is a factor and this sign has some chips but how would most sign collectors rate this for condition.

It doesn't go with my "man cave" but really like the colors and the logo is a copy of Rickenbacker's squadron logo from WW1 so it does have a weak militaria connection.

Any estimate on price is welcome for insurance purposes, as it's not for sale.

Perhaps you'll love it enough now to put it in your man cave? :D

Nice sign. Condition is actually pretty good. Are we seeing the best side?

Both sides are very close to the same condition, but yes this is the better side.

The only thing I see that is even possibly objectionable is the loss right there by the hat. This is typical of these old signs, as the finish shatters like glass.

@verybrad - since you've been dealing with so many automobile related items recently, in the big auctions you are helping with, do you think this piece is probably worth in the $10,000 - $35,000 range (from the 2 links I found)?

Was doing a bit of reading and thought this site was pretty informative about how rare this car was/is: http://theoldmotor.com/?p=129155

Winner! Wow that is really cool! If I inherited it -- I'd have a hard time letting go even for that large pile of greenbacks!

We are the same, no plans to sell but seeing these prices does make one consider it.

Anybody with any insights into the sign market? One of the hottest areas of the antiques and collectables world for the past several years. Can prices continue their momentum and make this sign a very good investment piece?

My cheapskate heart says: take the money and RUN straight to the bank!

One never knows when the bottom might fall-out of the porcelain sign market.

In this market the high end of the market only seems to continue to get better while the middle of the market continues to get devastated with stagnate interest and price declines. If you have an antiques and collectables blue chip in one of the in-demand areas like signage you may want to hold.

or if 6 of these don't show up in a barn find!

how many times have I seen an ebay seller get gobs of money for an item.....and within days....more of the same show up for sale...

just remember: Preston 'found' this 'lost' sign behind a deep freezer - not exactly where I'd store a pricey item!
