He was under Hospice care for an amazingly long time. My mother only lasted 10 days before Hospice killed her.

Perhaps one of our most truly decent human Presidents. So much of a mensch, seems he just couldn't or wouldn't play the deep political game.He was a brief four year break between Repubs.

He was a true gentleman. Decent, honourable and worthy of respect for who he was and what he did, and how he lived his life.

He lived his life for service of others. Was a true & genuine gentleman. He & his wife are examples to which our country should aspire to be.

Decent, and kind; and I know of no other ex-pres who took up tools and worked for Habitat for Humanity...at the age of 95. A well-deserved Rest, in Peace.

When my daughter was in college in Atlanta she volunteered for Habitat and worked on a house with him. His daughter also taught at my grandson's school and her son went there so we'd see the Carters at Grandparents Day. Jimmy and Roslyn were gracious enough to allow photos.

The USPS is taking tomorrow off to essentially attend the funeral. Good on 'em.

I listened to an interview on NPR yesterday with a man who was a hostage in Iran during the crisis. They were held for 444 days. He said at first they were all angry with Carter for not getting them released sooner. He was in Germany to greet them when they were flown there. As the years passed, this man learned more about what Carter did and why and he now believes that if the President had acted differently they might have all been killed. The irony is that after Carter brokered the release, the actual event didn't take place until January after Reagan had taken office so he kind of got to take credit for it.

The Iranian ayatollahs hated Carter as I recall; that's enough to make you like him.:p
