Found these two lovely tigers at the thrift today for $3.00 for the pair. It looks like they may be painted on cloth - though I am no expert . A gentleman that was admiring my find said they are probably old because paintings are no longer framed like that. I took pics of front and back of both and closeup of one so you can see detail. Any thoughts? How old? Is it a painting or print? Unknown artist?

    Thanks,

    Chiquita

I think these are probably 1950's-70's. I remember getting one at an estate sale years ago, remember thinking that it was pretty impressive in person.

Here are two on Ebay (similar). The set of two is not specific about origin, saying possibly Vietnam or Korea.

The second one actually has a maker's stamp and says "Japan", so I think yours are more like the first link.

Nothing antique looking about the framing to my eye, but certainly looks vintage.

Poor tigers look like they're in cages 3 sizes too small.

Thank you for the info. Very helpful. Not bad purchase for $3.00 bucks. I uploaded pics of these on eBay to find a match and had no luck. They are older than what I originally thought. So thanks again.

    Probably painted on silk.
To me, it looks like they were re-framed in 1950s oak frames that are too small.

Thank you. I was tempted to open back paper (looks like someone previously had same idea) see if I could get more info and decided not to

Those pictures were GI bait back when; they came back with returning soldiers from Japan, China, Viet Nam, etc. I'd give them house room too, but I'm used to having a cheesed-off cat around somewhere.
