Rocker - cane seat - what type of wood- age?

    Picked this up a while back. 19th century maybe? And I am wondering if it's walnut or chestnut or something else... Thanks for taking the time to look - and for your input :)

    Early 1900s American Oak rocker.
    Looks to have been re caned

    This is basically a T-back, though a bit of an exaggerated form. Most are pretty straight across the top. This one has a bit of an art nouveau flair to it.
