I've looked in several Ronson lighter forums but haven't found this one. It's butane, and I assume more recent? It's 2 5/8" tall, 7/8" wide, and 1/4" thick. Marked Ronson Japan on the bottom. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you!

It is alledged that there was a town in Japan named Usa so articles could be marked 'Made in USA'.
I suspect this was made by Mr Ron Son who may have lived in Usa.

In other words, Ronson my arse.

I remember my father telling me that story - probably in the early to mid 50s. He didn't want me spending any money (my grandmother sometimes gave me a quarter to spend at the neighborhood dime store) on anything made in Japan. Dad was a WWII vet, fought in the Philippines.

All that said, please educate me on why this lighter is a fake/looks suspicious.

There is also a town named Scotland, where they make whisky.
Many Dutch Indonesians of the older generation are the same. They survived the Japanese camps, where so many of their family and friends were murdered or died of starvation and disease. And the fate of so many women and girls was horrendous.

United Kingdom and International unit spun off
Continuing losses led to the sale of the UK division in September 1981 to Jeffrey Port, who quickly reorganized it as Ronson International. The losses continued, and the new company was in receivership by July 1982. Geoffrey Lord bought it in 1983, renamed it Ronson Exports Limited, and attempted to return to profitability by adopting the competition's approach of importing lighters produced cheaply in Asia.
