Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Looks like the first word on the back might be AKKUMULATORE or AKKUMULATOREI. I can't read the second line.

I darkened it and also sharpened the image a bit. Can't read the second line at all.

I mean only that signatures of a same person could vary during time. Only this.

Very interesting. Yes could be a D. I can’t find any watercolour paintings by him. I also note the signatures are all lowercase, whereas mine is uppercase.

AKKUMULATORE! is what I read. Batteries in English.

Yes that’s what I saw also. Presume it’s an old advertising card or part of a cardboard box used as the backing board.

So here’s a comparison of some signatures - OP, D Rusch and Ludwig Rosch. May be neither of course. 2BA5B778-5007-438A-A0EF-714626A3F66F.jpeg ED3CD585-BE89-4383-973E-8518BFE61226.jpeg C1FA7325-B5D4-479B-8ED1-F823AA367DB6.jpeg

And this is painting comparison that first led me to Ludwig Rosch - see light colour before the hills on both, similar greens etc.. I accept feedback that others not seeing the same and may mean it’s someone else altogether E2BDE51F-F6B3-40BA-973B-5A1C83494441.jpeg FA5BBF9A-F923-441B-8FA5-D88FE4A06DD6.jpeg

I think Ludwig was the better painter.

Thanks @Debora i think the angle I took that pic on is misleading sorry. Here’s a better close up. And yes agree there’s some nicer detail on the one you posted. Interestingly I think the field scene and clouds on mine are as good or better than Ludwig comparison I posted but just my opinion.

the font of the signature is very typical Wiener Secession. the date is very typical old Austrian. Ludwig also seems the only one of these painters that was part of the Secession.
the windmill touches me as English or Nothern German, where he lived for a time a.o. or could have passed and could have been painted after old sketches during the wartime.

Very interesting, thanks @Fid Makes sense to me except that odd initial but have wondered if just a quirk or mistake. Can I ask what you mean by a.o.- area of operations during war?

amongst others. he lived in Switzerland, France , England before installing himself in Vienna again; not unusual that people went back to their country in times of big changes.
