    hi

Found this watercolour today (14 by 10")in a charity shop, marked at bottom as rough sketch and signed

Was wondering age of the piece, thought the clothes of the lady looked to go back some, not sure how far

looks to have been reframed in modern frame

    Any insights or thoughts appreciated

Could it be a draft for Atkinsons Ale poster or advertising?

Not found such an advertisement. I thought it unusual the name appears twice. :bucktooth:

Yeah I agree it does look a pretty intentional double branding

Perhaps an idea that was never used

    Or just good timing :)

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Maybe someone started their own Pub, which eventually might have become what appears to be a successful restaurant down the road a few years later!!!

The brand name Atkinson's Ales appears twice because the inn, which was operating as early as 1760, would have been a tied house at the time the watercolor was done.

Could be signed C.E.T., for Charles E Turner.

Interesting idea. His commercial work is not dissimilar. But the hands appear to be different.

Interesting thanks, I do see some similarities actually, though not in the way the sky is painted

    Worth looking into

Charles E. Turner's work is a more controlled and he uses a more subdued palette. He is primarily known as a World War II military painter and you can see his attention to detail in the watercolor you posted. I suspect someone knowledgeable could identify the car models if need be.
