    Hi,

This was another Donation to the RSPCA, I was wondering if anyone could shed any light on it for me,

The Satchel Measures apx 37cm wide by 30cm tall and has haand-written names and information on it, if anyone has any details please get in touch :)

    Many thanks

    Martin

BLA probably stands for British Land Army, date 1945?

And whoever it belonged to was a Quartermaster Sargeant. Neat. I'd ask £15 to maybe £20 for it.

Artificer Quarter Master Sergeant (British Army)
    BLA = British Liberation Army.
I would call that an early briefcase (for documents) rather than a satchel.

Martin-did you get a chance to look into the question we asked you about the RSPCA wax seal fob on your previous thread? We here went as far as we could go investigating that one, then suspended work months ago, but kept wishing we could find someone from the rspca to help us. We were of course overjoyed when you appeared! While of course we'd never want to put anyone "on the spot" perhaps we could hand you the microphone so to speak and get your thoughts on the matter, or perhaps even contact information within rspca for an official who might know. Thanks Martin!

Not as yet I'm afraid springfld.arsenal, and I have certainly been asking around, however I have someone in mind to ask about it, she is visiting me on Wednesday 23rd and I will show her your pictures and let you know if she can come up with any information for you.

I doubt walrus....I'm gonna see if I can check skin types online...

Passing leather through heated rollers under some pressure gives any pattern you want, cheaply.

Doing looking around, walrus come closest.
BTW, when I typed "hippo" I was thinking rhino, but it certainly is not either of those.
It really doesn't look like any kind of cow though, at least not to me.

From water buffalo. Medium sized grain with a flatter appearance.

From adult cow hide. Possess a wider and flatter grain

Well....could just be an old cow !!!!

There are differences in where the skin is positioned on the body...as that can and does affect the texture !!
