This is the other piece I can't identify out of my cranberry glass lot.

At first I thought the color was painted on but it's not, it's ruby glass overlay.

The Jar measures 5 1/2" high without the lid and the opening is 5". There is a nice floral band around the jar which I think is lightly acid etched. Does anyone know anything about this piece? How would I describe it, as ruby blush? or something else? TY

I believe the color is called rubina.

That's the word I was thinking, but I thought Rubina glass items had more colors in them (for instance, amber or blue or green). Thanks for the info.

George, I found an example just like mine on ebay, except the ruby part was more consistently straight and there was no etch. It was listed as Victorian Era Rubina Art Glass Covered Biscuit Jar

George, thanks so much! With your help I was able to locate the maker and pattern of the etch as well as a closed listing. So I'm good to go.

Sshh . . . it's a secret, but I'll tell you anyway. LOL! According to a bunch of sellers, it was made by Hobbs Brockunier and the etch/pattern is called Flamingo Habitat (maybe, I haven't verified that yet).

I'm gong to be the one to tell you the above is in error. It was NOT made by Hobbs, Brockunier, it is NOT Flaming Habitat etch. While Hobbs, Brockunier did make Rubina wares, this is not theirs. ditto, Flamingo Habitat. I wrote the book (really) on Hobbs, Brockunier, and I know.

I think the etching was done by Northwood, therefore the glass probably was, too. BUT I would NOT state this unequivocally.

Note, also, the ruby is on the inside, not called overlay,

Yes, it does look like Northwood's Aurora. Thank you for setting me straight. Hopefully, I would have found that out for myself as I continued checking (although I doubt it). What I found so far was that about half said H-B and the other half said NW.

Wanted to ask, is the fact that the ruby is not applied straight across considered a flaw?

No look at other examples of rubina here. http://www.eapgs.org/patterns/ Not H-B despite what some folks post on line. See Cherryhill's post above.

It left the factory that way, they didn't think it was a flaw, we shouldn't either, but some will.
