You can google "Palekh lacquer boxes" to begin learning about your box. The fine writing on the outside of the box usually identifies the artist, the particular village the box comes from, and the date it was painted. The paper is probably a certificate of authenticity. You will need to wait for someone who reads Russian here for a translation.

That's not exactly Palekh (although near), this is a box from Kholui village known for its own style of lacquer boxes. Other writings on the image give the surname of the artist - "Muratova" and the title - "Near the Well".
The writing on the side says "Olympiad-80", indicating that this was sold as a souvenir for the Moscow Olympics in 1980.
The paper says the box is actually a compact powder box. Also, it gives its sort (1), the size (6x6), and the price - 18.90 (which was quite expensive for time)

Curiously, the box on the link is from a different artist. It looks like this was mass production.
