I found this in Stockport today. It made complete sense just to leave it in the shop and pretend id never seen it, other than I love it. Nearly killed myself dragging it home 1km to the train station then on the train, bus then tram. It weighs about 30lb according to my bathroom scales and is 100cm x 80cm. One day I'll learn... Two people actually stopped me on the way to remark at it. A few looked at me like the elephant man.

I had time to do some research on the way home and I'm still not sure who it is by.

First of all there is Joaquim sabaté Casanova. This website matches the signature on my painting to this name.

    https://www.mutualart.com/Artist/Joaquim-Sabate-Casanova/86E5D57716A5AB46/Artworks

Then this site has a piece they have attributed to Joaquim sabaté Casanova. Different signature. ''Quimet'

    https://www.artmajeur.com/joaquin-s...-sabate-ca/en/artworks/17356222/camino-nevado

Then there is Joaquim Sabate De Mora

    http://www.remozarte.com/index.php/...auracion-de-pintura-al-oleo-de-joaquim-sabate

However this guy signs his paintings 'de mora'.

Another site references de Mora and Casanova as being the same person.

The more I dig the more contradictions spring up. Confused

So he seems to sign different pieces with different signatures. This guy is an enigma.

think you done well mate, especially for the price.
i really like the colours on this, odd but interesting
suppose you'd call it an impasto with the way the paint has been applied

Thanks. I'm not sure whether to keep it or sell it on. It really appeals to my taste but I am currently trying to clear my paintings out as I have way too many. It's way too heavy and fragile to post. It is sandwiched between two slabs of glass and is a bit like a patio door. It would never make it in one piece. I could take it out of the frame. But that might affect the value. Maybe I could reframe it but it looks like it might be stuck to the MDF board behind it. Even taking it out of the frame is tricky as it is held in like a window, with fillets of wood fixed in with panel pins. Bit of a pickle. Think I'll just sit on it for a while and enjoy it. Not heard of 'Impasto'.

He looked like Caesar Romero or Don Quixote.

I wonder if that's a reflection of another piece or a creepy self portrait in the background?
