This painting is signed N. Cappella and looks suspiciously like the work of Dali. Anyone ever heard of him using a pen name on other works? I found info that said he used a woman's name when writing critiques about other artists. It is signed N. Cappella with a nail through a small piece of paper in the lower right. Probably just someone heavily influenced by the master's work. 24x36. It's a little banged up.

I agree, not by Dalí. I only see a possible Dalí influence in the treatment of the sky, but I think that is merely coincidence.

It is a good painting and it would be worth focussing on the actual painter. Not only was he talented, but he was also kind enough to sign properly, instead of so many who just put an illegible squiggle on canvas.

Certainly a Surrealist like Dalí. The artist's signature is painted using the trompe l'oeil technique. Here's a Greek mosaic example from 159-138 BCE.

Dali being my influence in my younger days painting, I have a soft spot for other such followers. Very nice painting.

Just a thought, but I believe you are looking at “N. Cappello”.
As the last letter seems to have a first and a second top center stroke, both ending bottom center, typical use of a paint brush, unlike the first “a” having a straight down second stroke. IMO

There are similar facial elements. If it is, the OP painting looks earlier.
