The Chinese Satsuma vs the Japanese Satsuma which one is older? Would this item be in the style of moriage? How old is this piece? Is it old or very old?

    This plate has a 17 3/4" diameter. Would it be called a charger or a wall plate or neither? 20180610_195428.jpg 20180610_195439.jpg 20180610_195445.jpg 20180610_195453.jpg 20180610_195450.jpg 20180610_195510.jpg 20180610_195502.jpg 20180610_195520.jpg 20180610_195513.jpg 20180610_195546.jpg

    Satsuma is Japanese.
This is a newer item made in China in the Satsuma style.
    It is not moriage.
    It is enamel painted.

You could call it either a charger or a decorative wall plate. I think of a charger as more of an underplate or serving plate for a dinner but no harm in calling your plate that. Pretty thing and I guess they really didn't try to deceive anyone with the mark. The mark is legit as far as it goes although I don't think the term "Chinese satsuma" will ever sit completely right with me.

I understood the "Made in China" in English was a very recent development.

I was a bit confused about the Royal Satsuma mark because the made in China and satsuma wording is reversed. Anyway paid 30.00 bucks for it and it is huge an glorious looking to my eyes. Because it is enamel is that why it is not in the raised moriage style of the Japanese? It seems similar to the black and white dragon tea set with the raised surfaces. Looking at it now at home it does look fairly new but very well crafted and no attempt to deceive but to stand on its own as a work of time-consuming beauty.
