Satsuma markings?

Discussion in 'Pottery, Glass, and Porcelain' started by Maria Waters, Apr 12, 2019.

  1. Hi, can anyone please identify this Satsuma mark? I did check on the Gotheborg website but could not find a match. Our great great grandad visited Japan circa 1890 whilst in the Navy and purchased the two vases. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks

Well...the mark is upside down. The top line read left to right says Dai Nippon, meaning Great Japan. I think the rest is the same as the mark on this page under Choshuzan, but my neck doesn't contort these days. https://www.gotheborg.com/marks/satsuma.shtml
