What were the best/most creative secret compartments you have found in antique furniture? Any recommendations of a small piece to watch for with secret compartments? I see a lot of old secretaries and writing slopes have them. I am looking for a small, creative piece with a neat secret compartment.
Sometimes find a hidden drawer in a case piece that uses the bottom skirting as the drawer front. Have seen one piece that used the apron under the top as a drawer front as well.
I had an oak dresser with a hidden compartment using the decorative bit under the mirror where it sat on the dresser. And the matching chest had a hidden compartment found in the top drawer. When you opened the top drawer, you had to feel along the top to find it. It was felt-lined for jewelry.
And some nice Dutch 'toogkast' influence, with those arches. https://www.antieksite.nl/a-4174860...in-eikenhout-met-zwart-no6812068/#description https://arjenspinhoven.nl/nl/utrechtse-toogkast
