These were left on the give-away table. They looked interesting. Research indicated that one depicts a Russian trioka and the other is a Red Hat Society pin. I posted them on another chat group and the consensus from most responders was that they would have left them on the table.

The Russian pins can be worth a bit if hand-painted; they're apt to find homes no matter how they're produced. I might well have left the red hat for a Red Hat Society member, if there still are any. It's also not my style.

The Russian lacquer brooch of the troika is probably not hand painted but a lacquered print.

Looks like. I spent way too much money on a hand painted floral one when these first came to the USA. The troika one is still good-looking and worth nabbing from a Free table.

    How can I tell if it's had-painted?

Ordinarily, I just can. Eyeballs and experience. Also, they're usually signed on the back. Sometimes the front, but pins are mostly signed on the back.

Never go with the consensus when asking for opinions on items one gets free.
They would have scarfed them up also. We would have too.

I don't see anything on the back.
