Got all 3 sets at a recent sale. Mostly wondering about the 3rd set. Is there a name for the kind of cufflink backing that sort of "pivots"?

    1st signed "BB"...

2nd (did find other "SILMEX" cufflinks online)

3rd --Wondered about the "pivot" and also is there anything special about this turquoise worth mentioning?

Here is the close up of the back of #2, the tragedy comedy masks. Any hope for that maker's mark --some kind of Thunderbird possibly?

Are you referring to the shape with the 10 inside? That should be the Mexican national mark from 1948 until about 1979. See the explanation on this page.

You will note that the number is not necessarily the maker, but may be the city in which assayed.

Yes, thank you. That is what I was talking about for that one. Not a thunderbird, but an eagle. Good explanation and helps me date these. Thank you!

1st cufflinks appear to be Navajo indian….#2 Mexican made and that style of Eagle mark used 1955-1980. Silmex I think is Silver Mexico abbreviated. Looked like they were covering all the bases...lol sterling, silmex, .925...lol

    Thank you.

Yes, a nice varied group. All from the same former owner.

Is there a name for the kind of cufflink backing that sort of "pivots"?

    Whale back swivel cufflinks...
the pivot allows for them to sit flat in a jewelry box, and makes it easier to add markings to the rear face of the cufflink.

Hinged with a pivot to allow flexibility.....also allowing the cufflink to move freely with a soft cuff...

I think so.....I have a kinda similar pair....with the cuts on the ring....and have sold others with those cuts ...but they were signed and u could see the marks left by the jewelers saw.....
    I can't say they are NA...but I can't say they are not.....

I do like the Thalia and Melpomene ones. Bit of a thing for them: Ma was an actress and had a few bits with the masks.
