Shakudo? Vase

    Hi everyone. I know it's been a while since I've been on. Things have been kind of tough lately, but they're starting to improve.

    I picked up this vase at the thrift store yesterday. I think it's made out of heavy metal, although the outer surface has a textured appearance. Seems very good quality. The only mark is on the side. Is it Shakudo?

    Nope. Doesn't look like shakudo work to me. Nowhere like fine enough. Looks cast in relief then polished?

    Size? Doubt it is shakudo.

    It could be like the vase in the link, iron with decorations in a Japanese bronze-like alloy.
    Japanese alloys are different from Western alloys. They have many different alloys, including ones with some precious metal in them. Shakudo is one of those. Shakudo is generally used for small decorations, like on Samurai sword fittings.
