Shank button made from old nickel with odd symbol

    Hey there! I've got this shank button pressed from what looks like a 1970 nickel. I'm trying to identify the symbol on the button and am wondering if anyone knows why this was made? It was in a jug of marbles from my dad's childhood (late 1960's early 70's.)
