Shard Pottery pendant - age of Chinese porcelain used?

I'm assuming it's about as old as its metal surround, i.e. not very, but you never know.

I have had several old pieces like yours with Ming dynasty shards. They were a big seller from Horchow's in the 60s. They were made in China but not stamped. I do not remember if they had stickers on them. My silver ones were 90% silver and If I remember the gold was 13 or 15 %.

Interesting. Maybe I need to test this. It was a blind luck grab at a rummage sale. I figured for a quarter or so it was pretty if nothing else.

 

Yup, the sherds used are usually of very considerable age. I really like this as a way of recycling.

 

Me too; it's a great thing to do with busted porcelains.

At my old house I had a slope in the back which I made into a rock garden. I had many pieces of broken Chinese porcelain and I added other broken pieces and mingled them into the rock garden it looked wonderful to my eye. the couple that bought my house did not like gardening so they covered everything with sand and grass. After two years the rain washed out the sand and the shards were exposed.
People walking by saw all the broken china and thought it was an old dump. They asked the new owners if they could carefully dig at the dump!!!! The new owners said NO. The people asked the other neighbors who lived there last. The neighbors put them in touch with me. I was so tickled I told the "diggers" that I had gotten a lot of unbroken pieces digging there at the dump but only went down about 6". I wonder if they ever snuck in when the owners were away to see what they could uncover.

With your best whome innocent face, of course. With my luck, I'd say something like that and they'd dig to uncover the gold coins/pirate treasure someone else buried there during the Depression when no one trusted banks.
