This is probably 60 years or older. My dad used to wear it in the winter when he shoveled the driveway. It is denim with wool lining and leather laces. The only tag says "Made in the USA". The loop for hanging on a hook is a small chain. I thought I saw one online years ago and it was called a Sherpa coat or something like that. I have been "decluttering" and this has been in my closet for years. I will never wear it, but hate to give it away. Anybody have any info on it? pullover.jpg pullover.jpg

When I had a hat made of it, early 1970s, that nubby fleece was called sherpa. I don't know when the term was adopted or whether it is still in use.

Looks like hippie garb. And don't see why it wouldn't be inspired by "army surplus." Worn a lot at the time.

Since it zips up on the sides, I was thinking that maybe it went over something thicker, like snow pants or some other thick pants. Or perhaps the zip is there to accommodate a pistol or a tool that is worn near the waist. Where do you think your father might have acquired the jacket? A job? Was he in the military (many men were in the 60s), although military clothing is usually marked with the owners name.

I asked my 93 year old father about the jacket. We had a elderly neighbor where I grew up and the neighbor either bought it for my dad or already had it and gave it to him. It was given to him 60+ years ago.
