Is this some sort of tribal antique , or just some would be wood workers attempt at a chair?
It seems to be made out of some kind of hardwood and although it's only about a 1.5 feet tall it's quite heavy.

    Thanks for any help!

It looks more like a step to me than like a chair. Wonder what went in the opening(s)?

looks like someone got hold of a tree trunk, and got creative !

I think the big hole is to bleed water off the seat...as this looks like a piece of outdoor furniture ...

Looks primitive and awesome! A set of four around a fire pit would be splendid! New project for the hubby!!!!

    Welcome, @the-craig.

I don't see any "primitive" toolmarks, such as an adze or chisel would leave, even on the bottom. The square and arch forms might suggest a western esthetic.

Where did you find it? It might not have travelled very far from its origin. I can see it having been made as a seat for a particular craft that was carried out close to the ground. But it does not show much sign of use, such as a dished seat or wear along the front edge.

The hole in the back was for the sitter's tail. ;)

Actually, the way the grain moves around the hole (visible on the back of the chair) would indicate it was a knothole in the original tree.

Somebody got creative with a tree stump and a chainsaw from the look of it. The methane hole was a wise move...badump.

Thanks everyone for the input, I didn't think it was anything but I thought I should ask.

I'll just keep it outside, maybe put some plants on it or something.
