Hi, I purchased a number of pieces at a thrift shop this week and this lithograph is one of them. I am having some trouble sorting out the signature. It looks like the last name could be Van Dyke or Van Dylee, which are both names. I am stuck on the first name and could use some extra sets of eyes. I haven't had a chance to dig into the census records yet, but will get to it shortly. I suspect the artist could be from the area as Grand Rapids, Holland and Kalamazoo have large Dutch communities. There is a Dirk VanDyke that exhibited in 1934, listed in both Davenports and Who's Who. I would say that is a good possibility. Nice catch on the way the "K" was written.

Found him in Detroit. His first name was legally "Dierk." In 1940 census, he listed his occupation as "Director of Art Institute."

Born in 1905 so these are relatively youthful works.

Great responses, thanks. I can see now why the picture was in Michigan. I will have to check and see if he was a member of the Scarab Club.

Thanks! I knew it would be best to insert that. I was writing on my phone, though, and that makes it a lot more bothersome.
