I’m looking to decipher the signature attached which comes from a portrait in a Victorian scrapbook I have recently acquired. Not thinking it is a known artist but can’t work out the letters in the name

    many thanks

Ah! I agree the first number of the year is likely 4, but I really can't tell what the second is.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

We won't know what that watermark says unless Paul would like to post a better AND close-up image of it.....it sort of looks like a 'basket'....but here's also the full image of the next image Paul posted as well.....NICE lettering!

Paul, fyi, it would have been helpful if you'd provided us with the scrapbook's presentation date in your initial post as well as posted an uncropped photograph of the signature along with a close-up photograph of the watermark. All of these provide context.

I think it’s a coat of arms with a heraldic shield possibly flanked on either side by two creatures?

You might getting a better idea of the watermark if you hold it up to light or shine a flashlight from underneath.
