Signed Oriental vase is it a modern studio piece?

Hi, I have no idea where to start with this so hopefully someone has some thoughts or knowledge to share. Until I took these pictures I saw it as being black but in the pictures it shows up as brown. It is signed with characters on the bottom (sorry if they are upside down) but I am unsure of what the language is. I am guessing it is a more modern piece, but if anyone recognizes it as a certain style that could be helpful. It stands around 10" tall. Thanks in advance for any help or leads.
