Id guess the base broke off and someone "fixed" it. Very odd object. I cant figure out if its Arabic or what.

Looks purposeful to my eye. Is that olive wood? That would help place it.

Contemporary catholic Eucharist Goblet or Renn Faire fantasy piece ?

Pretty sure it was made this way, it doesn't appear broken.

Fantasy piece just made to look cool, or some designer with kooky prices put out a line of them for really fancy tables.

I love things like this! Could it be Irish? It would be fun holding candies!

    Interesting piece. Modernist-Brutalist Christian chalice?
Looks like the wooden base is meant to be there, not a replacement.

It is difficult to see if the motifs in between the crosses are stylised letters or just swirly thingies. I think we get a better idea of what it looks like once it is polished.

    Ditto Me
    Ditto AJ !
PS-How did someone come into possession of a probable Catholic Eucharist Goblet ? Sounds like a job for my favorite private dick-Johnny Dollar.
PSS- In spite of it's somewhat Brutalist goofiness,it's actually nicely crafted. The turned wood-burl base is nice.

4 sided crucifix & 'tree of life' base, wood disc-poss olive wood (Garden of Gethsemane-Mount of Olives). Obviously crosses in the interior of the cup, exterior poss Latin symbols.
Cookie- Where'd You find it ? Don't tell me Sister Ethel hawked it to buy eggs !?

You can find antique ones here, mostly because so many RC churches were closed because of lack of attendance.

They do turn up here, and the candlesticks etc too. They also come from, in Anglican and Episcopal churches, and lots of other "mainline" denominations. Sometimes when the churches close shop, the accoutrements end up on the open market.

That's happened, but it's usually druggies with few operational brain cells. Pawn shops either won't buy them or don't pay much and then call the cops to come get them.

Revised photo now I have in hand. Cleaned the caked polish off of it. I think I like it the way it is. Tested sterling silver.
